A corner joint knife is a crucial tool in drywall finishing and plastering work, enabling you to create smooth, seamless corners. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use it effectively.

Firstly, preparation is key. Ensure your work area is clean and free of debris. Have the right joint compound or plaster ready, along with a hawk to hold it. Grip the corner joint knife firmly by its handle, making sure you have a comfortable and stable hold.

When starting, load the knife with an appropriate amount of joint compound. You can do this by scooping it onto the blade from the hawk. Approach the corner you need to work on. For an inside corner, place the blade vertically along the seam, with one side of the blade against each wall. Apply gentle, even pressure and draw the knife upward or downward, spreading the compound evenly into the corner. This fills any gaps and creates a smooth transition.

For an outside corner, the process is slightly different. You'll usually use a corner bead, which is first attached to the corner. Then, with the joint knife, apply compound over the bead, working it in a way that covers the bead completely and blends it with the surrounding wall surface. Make sure to feather the edges of the compound, gradually thinning it out as you move away from the corner to avoid a visible line.

Throughout the process, check your work regularly. If you notice any ridges or uneven areas, use the knife to smooth them out. It may take a few passes to achieve the perfect finish. After application, allow the compound to dry thoroughly before sanding and painting. With practice and patience, you'll master the use of the corner joint knife to achieve professional-looking corners in your drywall projects.
