What is a mudding knife called?
In the construction and renovation field, the term "mudding knife" often appears, but many beginners remain unsure about its proper name and use. In fact, a mudding knife is commonly referred to as a "joint knife" or "drywall knife," serving as an essential tool in drywall finishing.
During daily work, a mudding knife is mainly used for applying and smoothing joint compound, ensuring that wall surfaces are even and neat. Unlike standard scrapers, these knives typically feature wider blades, allowing them to cover seams more effectively and improve both efficiency and overall results. For drywall installers and renovation professionals, it is considered indispensable.
Based on industry practices, mudding knives vary in width and flexibility. Smaller blades are ideal for patching and detail work, while larger knives handle wide applications. Choosing the right tool not only minimizes compound waste but also improves the flatness of wall surfaces after multiple coats.
